THREE POEMS by A.R. Salandy

LAKESIDE MOON

In that swirling warm water
Stood a man so content with the moon
Just nestled high above the clouds of past thought

For long ago life was only the natural
Expectations of individuals and the
Untampered with & uncontrolled nature

Which covered the land in a fertility
Where lakes a plenty dotted the land,
But now far and wide all that can be seen

Is the bright night sky
Overcome by the light pollution
Of our man-made weather,

But now the past remains just that
And that large grey moon is just
A distant memory in the mind of the man

That stood once consumed by the brightness
Above a rural lake shimmering
In the light of the star speckled sky.

DISTRUBED

I am disturbed by the sound of my heart
Every time I find myself staring
At his footsteps as they pass me

As if he were a God or something more
Than the object of my attraction,
But in that moment I realized

That we love to be enamored
And love to be obsessed
But never to be loved truly-

For with sun comes rain
And the contrast of sentiment
So eternally stratified within our existence-

That gives alternative emotion
Which subsides the love
And gives way to the reality of ones being,

So while I sit disturbed by my adoration
For the scent of his musk
Or the spring in his step

I am made aware
That my adoration is as chemical
As the nature of late

And my desire is as benign
As the steps he takes
Or the way he stares so longingly at me.

BEYOND CITY LIMITS

I hold back raw fingers
That caress eyes streaming
Fragranced rain
Onto cracked pavements
That wear depleted souls down

Into an emptiness acute,

But walk on as I do
Through bitter sleet
And ravenous roads
That hide so peacefully
Along the city boundary-

Where rural paths take control
Of desolate lands
Where foxes howl
And owls fly freely
Upon a slow approaching phantom,

But still I rage on

And raise bare fists
Against a jet propelled night
Fleeting and malevolent
While daunting skies do follow me
On evening jaunts dismal and repetitive
